Measurement of runaway electron impact pitch angle at wall
2024 Research Campaign, Disruption Mitigation
Purpose of Experiment
Post-disruption runaway electrons are a serious concern for tokamak-based reactors due to their ability to cause very localized wall damage. Understanding and predicting this wall damage is therefore an important research area. At present, a serious shortcoming of any attempts at understanding RE-wall damage is the lack of any diagnostic of the properties of the REs hitting the wall, including energy, pitch angle, and number.
Experimental Approach
In this experiment, we will attempt to make the first measurement of RE pitch angle of REs hitting the wall.
