2025 – Density control via real-time variation of pellet mass and frequency

Density control via real-time variation of pellet mass and frequency

2025 Research Campaign, Plasma Control

Purpose of Experiment

This experiment seeks to optimize density control throughout an evolving discharge, by fully leveraging the degrees-of-freedom available to ITER/FPP-relevant actuators, by controlling both the pellet mass and frequency.

Experimental Approach

This experiment will exploit a new capability to adjust the size of fueling pellets on DIII-D, to optimize density control throughout an evolving discharge by controlling the pellet mass in real time.
