2024 Research Campaign, Thrust: Fast Ions, Turbulence and Alfven Waves Interaction
Purpose of Experiment
Zonal flows are theoretically predicted to reduce the amplitude of unstable Alfven eigenmodes. The goal of this experiment is to observe Alfven-eigenmode induced zonal flows.
Experimental Approach
Reproduce two conditions where Alfven-induced zonal flows have been observed in simulations and a third condition where they are likely to occur. Use BES and DBS to observe the zonal flows.
